VEILED DESIRE

A frail caress falls slowly
From her shaking fingers atop
The face on a picture’s image.
She hears his melody playing
Against the window pane;
The melodic trembling
Of serpentine sonatas.
Yet, the fragile glass reflects
Shattered beauty and svelte love
Melting in the warm rain.
Such a sad epitaph
To the surety that was once
Envisioned in her ethereal dreams.
Her possession of him was sovereign
There she held him captive and sated.
Now the rain invites her to accompany
Its lament and mourn its burst of sorrow.
The deep resonance of his voice
In the quiet of a moment’s heartbeat,
Teased her tears to mark the cadence
Of the rain’s downward flow and its lurid
Clawing at the window’s sill before dropping
Helplessly to dead stone and muddied earth
Sullied, pallid and dark with cold silence.
She lies among the rank weeds, lonely
And wretched, taken by a ravenous ache;
Bravely facing the plundering that dawn
Will surely inflict upon her veiled desire
She bares her life to the sun’s reproachful repartee.

Such a sad story of loss. I was interested from the first word to the last. You told the story nicely and the word choices read well. Anthony
Hi Anthony….I have rewritten this poem many times.  I'm glad that you like it.  Always appreciate your point of view!

oh Valerie!!!
beautiful lament!!!
"taken by a ravenous ache" how I dread the ache!!! beyond pain, effects go beyond the physiological and wreaks havoc on the physical!
"veiled desire" what a title, what a theme, what an emotional tragedy!!!
im so grateful you shared this!
