THE VETERAN

The time has come for me to stop and reflect
Upon the decisions I've made in my past
Though so many years have come and gone
They seem to have flown by so very fast

I can honestly say that I have no regrets
But I wonder how some choices have affected me
Like spending so much time in defense of my country
And the toll it may have taken on my family

No one will ever know the difficulty of my decision
And how it tore me apart deep inside
But when I see my family show their respect for me
My heart swells up with such great pride

Still ones mind can't help but wonder
If the decisions we made were right
It's too bad no one is ever born
With the power of hindsight

The decisions we make as we grow in life
Is kind of like planting a seed
