A VISION OF THE PAST

Staring out the window
Shake the latch; can’t find the key
Can see my own reflection
And it’s screaming back at me
The panes are feeling anguish
And the frames they line my frown
The blinds block out the lonely view
They’re always falling down
So I bash hard on the glass
My cries for help, no one can hear
The people that walk by the house
Don’t look but they are near
I am locked within this room
Just a memory of my past
The loneliness is haunting me
This feeling cannot last
A little girl she skips right by
Looks up to see me stare
Her mother pulls her by the hand
Of me she’s unaware
But the girl she clearly sees me
Points towards me with surprise
Her mother pulls her onwards
Disbelief, veils her frightened eyes
I have watched these broken footpaths
For some years now, maybe more
I’ll never leave my prison
I’ve walked through the deathly door
A room that once was vacant
But now filled with all my fear
I’m destined for a life alone
It all becomes quite clear
So I stand there at my viewpoint
Lose myself amongst the crowd
Sadness; now it comforts me
Just like my ghostly shroud .....
