Walking home at Night

Walking home at Night

Walking home at night, anxiously extending your stride,

Wanting to get home quickly, because you've missed your ride

Stop at a lighted street lamp, peering into the dark

Way in the distance, you hear a dog's wailing bark

Prickles on your neck, hair standing up on end

Sensing something strange, just around the bend

“C’mon, “you say to myself, “You’re starting to fall apart”

Your footsteps quicken, keeping rhythm with your heart

The pounding in your chest, echoes in your ears

And the stillness of the night, intensifies your fears

Something is watching you,  don’t know what or who

You stop, stand quite motionless, to take a breath or two

You hear the sound of footsteps creeping up the street

Swallowing deeply, trying very hard not to breathe

Adrenalin pumps madly, your muscles scream in pain

RUN!... and every ounce of fibre sends the message to the brain

Get home!  get home!...  RUN……..RUN as fast as you can

The eerie darkness of the night, terror, grips like a hand

Over your shoulder, you are franticly looking for whats behind

Your home has come into view and you're almost losing your mind

Keys are already in the hand, you race in and slam the door

Totally spent and exhausted, you collapse upon the floor.

Something catches you eye and you focus on the door

The door knob is turning………………need I say any more
