We Are All The Same

  I am just another you,
Living my life, as you have lived yours.
  Causing pain in equal measure of the pain inflicted on me.
Laughing with those I've allowed to be dear to me. 

  I am just another you with shorter hair.
I am another you without so large a beard.
  I wept, as you did, when all was taken from me,
And smiled just as you, when it- in some way-
                                   was returned.

  Flee from fear.
Fear compounds our differences and whispers,
                 "I am different from him"
                                  and
                 "I am different from her",
  When the reality is there has never been a creature
Capable of more connection than the human being.

  That same person who, on the street, averts his gaze,
Afraid of someone knowing what I have already come to know.

  Avert not your eyes brother;
             Avert not your eyes sister;
                       we are no greater than you.
