We Couldn’t Save Our Angels-Part II-Cody

After we lost your brother Nico, we were afraid we’d lose you too;
For ever since you had been a puppy, he’d been totally devoted to you!
We coddled and we held you, we never left you all alone;
We tried to ease the pain you felt, and the loss you had condone!
.
For a few months you were hurting, your dear Soulmate gone away;
No one to share your food with, no one to run with and to play!
But slowly, with our constant loving, you began to come around;
You chased the bouncing ball again, with happiness abound!
.
For two years plus we were a trio, each day we shared such bliss;
But in the Springtime just one year ago, something was amiss!
Your weight began to drop a bit, and your front leg had a mass;
Your Vet ran several tests on you, not sure if this would pass!
.
We prayed each time they checked your weight, that somehow you would gain;
But at fourteen plus years of age, your body fought sustain!
By Summer’s start, you were so frail, yet you fought so hard to stay;
But by August 1st you ate very little, and you slept for most the day!
.
On Friday, three days later, we feared your end was very near;
You ate no food and grew so weak, as we shed our hopeless tears!
In the early hours of Saturday, I laid a long time by your side;
I stroked your little body, as I kissed you and I cried!
.
As the Sun rose Mommy took you to potty, you stumbled and you fell;
Then came the call we always dreaded, the one sent straight from Hell!
Your Vet prepared a quiet room, I carried you in tenderly;
The time had come to take your pain away, we cried “This cannot be”!
.
We laid you on the same pink blanket, that our Nico had been on;
We held and kissed for a long long time, but then our precious Angel was gone!
We screamed the sounds of Heartbreak, our Souls shattered beyond repair;
We came home to a house so empty, our little boy no longer there!
.
We wept and wailed for hours, I thought my head would then explode;
Our second Sacred Soulmate, had too, traveled Heaven’s Road!
Now your ashes both lay side by side, atop the Shrine where we daily pray;
For our precious little Angels, who so sadly flew away!

                        For over two years
                     You lived without Nico
                       Then met in Heaven
.
