We know them still

We know them still
We knew to call her mother, yes we knew her well. She cooked our meals, washed our clothes and nursed us when we were ill.
When we got scraps and bumps, she would smile and hold us tight.
She would speak with a soft voice and make us feel all right.
Now sometime she would get angry and she’d chase us with a broom and as she chased us all around we knew she loved us to.
Our father was a large man with hands as hard as steel, who worked his life away, so we could have a meal.
He always seemed to be there when trouble came around, to help our mother smile again when life would bring her down.
We know they have been gone now, from this world for many years, we know they are together and love each other still.

This poem We know them still is from memories of my mother and father as I remember them.
