We never rejoiced

We never rejoiced

Through bitter conception
a nation is born
yet partition brings
its abstract concepts
our ideals divided
our future uncertain
the guns never silent
we never rejoiced.
An infant state
opportune's opportunity
to seize it's reigns
and suckle it's nectar
from the bells of Rome
to the conniving elite
confused by our masters
we never rejoiced.
The eggs of the cuckoo
were laid long ago
plantations legacy
forever to be felt
with marching bands
and orange sash
in all the noise
we never rejoiced.
A notion of statehood
lost in translation
a language to languish
on minority's margins
inferiority inbred
from the colonial fist
as Europe beckoned
we never rejoiced.
The new dawn did beckon
prosperity's gold
as glory in greed
infiltrates the soul
through banker and bandit
the castle did fall
in our pomp and delusion
we never rejoiced.
