Back Yard Nature

The nut hatch pulsating southward
on the tree trunk defying gravity.
Ā
The fawn running back and forth enjoying
itsā splashing in the creek.
Ā
The humming birds dive bombing each other
for the liquid nectar of the feeder.
Ā
The bear on the tree gnawing on the tree rope
and swatting it with its bruin
front leg with claws
for its anticipated bird seed lunch.
Ā
The sparrow chasing the moth,
the blue jay chasing the crow,
the crow chasing hawk.
Ā
The bluest blue of the blue bird,
the brightest yellow of the goldfinch,
the reddest red of the scarlet tanager,
the orangiest orange of the rare sighting
of the northern oriole.
Ā
The mother raccoon walking across a fallen tree
with five little ones behind her.
Ā
The bravado of the chickadee flying
on the deck railing just two feet
from where I sit.
The squirrel scaling down a tree,
and jumping from tree branch to tree branch
with calculated precision.
Ā
The eagles circling on the
concentric heat circles
rising from earth.
Ā
The sun shining off the reflective skins
of the 18 foot Albino Burmese python,
and three days later more
shininess off the body of
a 10 foot Carmel Burmese python.
Ā
Of all the wonderful creatures
I have seen from my back deck,
the most beautiful
is the sunshine reflecting off
the curvy
olive-skinned
Filipino wife of mine
sun bathing
naked
on the back deck.
