Poem -

What I Love Best

Mummy, am I beautiful ?
She asks one rainy day
A day I am full of bruises
My sad, dark inner play

I open my eyes to gaze
At her gentleness and grace
Caught off guard I amaze
At her troubled little face

She is more than beautiful
A blessing and a curse
I am careful with her anxiety
Important not to make it worse

You are beautiful reading
As your lips mumble out a line
If you want to be pretty
A search for knowledge will be fine

You are beautiful with animals
Rescuing a snail or a worm
Kindness is a beauty
That doubles with each turn

You are beautiful in the garden
Your hands deep in turf
Pull the grass up around you
And find peace in the earth

You are beautiful when smiling
Radiating light from your eyes
It’s so tough for a parent
To make sure the light never dies

How to explain life is full of shadows
And people often blind
I say what I love best of her
Hoping it brings peace of mind
