Poem -

What makes me write?

What makes me write?

It could be a word
Song of a bird
Or dog dirt on the street
It could be a smell
Ring of a bell
Somebody new I meet

It could be a sound
Something I’ve found
Someone I used to know
It could be a book
Mandarin duck
Watching the garden grow

I write about life
Trouble and strife
Sad things that make me weep
I write about love
Stars up above
In dreams when I’m asleep

I write about trains
Buses and planes
And places where I’ve been
I write of my youth
Searching for truth
Sometimes venting my spleen

The prompts are out there
Everywhere
So all you need to do
Is open your mind
Then you will find
You’ll soon be writing too.
