George Floyd was murdered

...an innocent victim

George Floyd was murdered

George Floyd was murdered
On the twenty-fifth of May
In Powderhorn Minneapolis
In the U S A
Accused of trying to pay for
Some tobacco he had bought
Using a twenty dollar bill
Thought to be counterfeit

Whether he did or didn’t
It didn’t justify his death
At the hands of the four police officers
Who were called to secure his arrest
And so it was that Chauvin
With the other three assisting
Handcuffed George and forced him to the ground
George showed no signs of resisting

Local people were traumatised
By what they were witnessing
As Chauvin’s knee-to-neck restraint
Prevented George from breathing
Causing George a black man
Like so many more before him
Minority Americans
To die an innocent victim -

Of Officers out of control
Operating Jim Crow laws
From half a century ago
Who should have been kicked
Out of the force
Many years before
For breaches of discipline
And acting outside the Law -

Chauvin was a thug a wolf
Dressed up in sheep’s clothing
Now millions of Americans march to show
How much they all loathe him
To the North South East and West
Braving National Guards in bulletproof vests
Who attack them with live ammunition
And canisters of teargas

Meanwhile outside a church President Trump
Posing with a bible in his hand
Threatens to send the military in
To make the “anti-fascists” disband
Only God in heaven knows
If or when such injustices
To black and other minorities
In the land of the free will ever end

Like millions of people throughout the world I was shocked to see Geoge Floyd, one of many black and minority ethnic individuals who have died on the streets at the hands of rogue police officers.
