What was so important
  that you just could not ignore?
   Was it finally the call
   That you've been waiting for?

 What was so important
 that you chose to break the law?
  Was it a text message
  from someone you just saw?

 What was so important
 that you could not resist?
 Was it a reminder
 for something you can't miss?

What was so important?
What made you look away?
Were you changing the song
or trying to get one to play?

My eighteen year old son
happened to be walking home.
Maybe you would have seen him
if you hadn't been on your phone.

A month now it has been
since my son passed away.
Your phone was more important 
than the life you took that day.
