Poem -

WHEN THE DEMON COMES TO CALL

WHEN THE DEMON COMES TO CALL

The hurt is all consuming

Foreboding is so strong

Fear's circling my heart

Don’t feel like I belong

The torment of my loneliness

Is playing with my head

No wanting or desire

My mind is all but dead

I’m living like a zombie

Feeling like a fool

Wanting to give in

Looking like a ghoul

This mental torture’s playing

Such havoc with my guts

Find it hard to function

Acting like a klutz

No one understands me

Myself; don’t understand

What happened to this man so brave

A long forgotten land

Missing my friend sanity

Don’t want to socialise

Paranoia is my mate

But fills me with such lies

I’m forgetting how I got here

A thing called hopelessness

Life slips on a downward track

Circumstance; such stress

I held it tight for so long

A person; strong and good

Worked; supported; cared for

Loved, like all men should

But pressure took its toll

Sucked the fun right out of life

Made me feel just like a failure

Cut through me like a knife

These things they come to get you

At a time you feel most weak

Don’t take pity on the good guys

Makes the future feel so bleak

Fault was not in question

Blame; not something to be laid

An illness that can get you

A price that must be paid

So when the hand of human kindness

Reached towards me; pulled me out

Of a big black hellish hole

It saved me; there’s no doubt

This hand was oh so gentle

Peach skin; so soft and kind

Healing hands that held me

And comforted my mind

Patience was a virtue

Constance was her name

The mindset of the demon

For her; was much too lame

The prowess of her handling

Was enough to tame the beast

My heart it could now calm

The monster now deceased ....

I take that as a huge compliment that this reminded you of this song.  Just listened to it Stephen and loved it; very haunting, gave me chills.  Thank you for going to such trouble.  Much appreciated :)

I would also recommend "fuzzy" and "rock of ages" if you ever get curious! both are by the same artist, grant lee buffalo! believe he grew up in northern California usa! got some folk sounds to him!

anyway, wish you well Rachel and much enjoy your work

Thanks Chris, really glad you liked it and could relate. It's a sad place for anyone to be and I think maybe why writes like this are commented on is because more people understand than would ever really be able to admit! Your kind comments Chris are truly appreciated, thanks :)

I love the way you seem to effortlessly, yet so descriptively write and this piece for me tops the cake..Mental anguish is a deep emotion I also enjoy writing about  ..big fave and vote...really loved it Rachel x:)

Thank you so much Carey, your kind comments are always appreciated. I think when you write an emotional or emotive piece, it is almost easier to put together; don't write from your head but your heart (or as I do in some cases the gut lol!) :)
