When I was a child

When I was a child

I walk four miles or maybes more in flimsy flip flops and my feet are sore
So I take them off and carry one in each hand coz I have reached the coastline as I stand on the sand
My frown turns around from the feeling of my feet
I love the sensation of the sand in the sunny heat

Tickling and tantalizing I dig in my toes into sandy swiggles where the tiny worm goes
I sit down on the beach and I inhale the fresh air and feel the sea fret dampen my hair
Yes I am at one with Mother nature
like a seafaring mermaid in a picture portraiture
If I was a Seagull I would be happy allday ducking and diving in the oceanic sway

But I am not a creature nor a bird that can fly yet I wish I had wings to soar that blue sky
Imagine the splenderous sights I could see if I only had a wingspan to lift off and flee
So I paddled the puddles and smelt salty brine coz this delight wets an appetite of mine
Such a taste of my childhood and a reminder of home when I was a child where I used to roam
