When Summer Fades

It seems that in a quiet and discreet fashion 
Summer has slipped away 
The cool rains that have covered the skies
For eight long days and eight long nights 
Drowning the laughter of children's play 

Though flowers still bloom- 
Leaves are still green, hanging about the treetops, serene 
Butterflies still flutter about 
With the Mockingbirds, Kingfishers and Herons on the shores 
Drowning in the lullaby of the cool waves 

Skies no more blue, match my somber mood 
No more wishing stars at night to whisper my dreams 
No more sunsets painting the skies in colors sublime 
No more sunrises to wake up the day 
Drowning in gray 

Something in the change of seasons to come 
Causes me to leave a part of me behind 
My true colors also fade, melt and blend 
I am but a Fall Harvest waiting for my time 
Drowning in the winds that carry me about
