When Summer Fades

When Summer Fades

It seems that in a quiet and discreet fashionย
Summer has slipped awayย
The cool rains that have covered the skies
For eight long days and eight long nightsย
Drowning the laughter of children's playย

Though flowers still bloom-ย
Leaves are still green, hanging about the treetops, sereneย
Butterflies still flutter aboutย
With the Mockingbirds, Kingfishers and Herons on the shoresย
Drowning in the lullaby of the cool wavesย

Skies no more blue, match my somber moodย
No more wishing stars at night to whisper my dreamsย
No more sunsets painting the skies in colors sublimeย
No more sunrises to wake up the dayย
Drowning in grayย

Something in the change of seasons to comeย
Causes me to leave a part of me behindย
My true colors also fade, melt and blendย
I am but a Fall Harvest waiting for my timeย
Drowning in the winds that carry me aboutย
