When you're chronically ill

When you're chronically ill
And the sands of time start to run low
When you're scared and afraid
As life's light fails to glow
When deaths by your side
Holding your hand
and the pain is getting too much
That you can hardly stand
you reach out your arms
And pray with your heart
You hold your loved ones close
Because you're afraid you'll soon part
When all that you know
It's what you've always done
So you continue to work
And play with your grandchildren in the Sun
But every day is a struggle
Every step it gets harder
Hope is no longer there
And it's starting to get darker
It's at this dark hour
you know what you're worth
When you know you'll soon be back
To just being earth
Will it be heaven or hell
Is there such a thing
Does God really exist
Do angels really sing
Will loved ones cope
How long will they cry
Will they be looked after
When it's my time to die
These thoughts do you keep
When your chronically ill
Especially at night
When everything is still
Please God here my prayers
And comfort my mind
Hold me till morning
When I leave the long night behind
Help me manage my fear
And help me be brave
For when it's time to accept
loved ones will soon standby my grave
So often I cry
And look into the sky
Please don't take me yet
I'm not ready to die
