WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO

WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO

As I walked along the waters edge
A fainted track grabbed my attention
Upward it went, winding around several tall oaks
Daffodils were in abundance
As though sprinkled, like confetti falling from the sky

I had left the noise some city behind
Seeking that solitary place
To reflect and gather my thoughts
Of a love that was puzzling my mind

She was everything I'd ever wanted
My life's struggles and heartbreaks
Had brought me to her

It was an uphill journey
But my naive heart refused to surrender
To my turbulent past
Which for most of my adult years
Had forced me into an emotional seclusion
And then we met

Now it seems like we are drifting apart
The fire of her touch has gone cold
Her kiss does not move me as before
I was sure it was her fault or disinterest

Until my doctor diagnosed me
With schizophrenia.

Wilford Barker.
