WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO

As I walked along the waters edgeÂ
A fainted track grabbed my attentionÂ
Upward it went, winding around several tall oaksÂ
Daffodils were in abundanceÂ
As though sprinkled, like confetti falling from the sky
I had left the noise some city behindÂ
Seeking that solitary placeÂ
To reflect and gather my thoughtsÂ
Of a love that was puzzling my mindÂ
She was everything I'd ever wantedÂ
My life's struggles and heartbreaksÂ
Had brought me to her
It was an uphill journeyÂ
But my naive heart refused to surrenderÂ
To my turbulent pastÂ
Which for most of my adult yearsÂ
Had forced me into an emotional seclusion
And then we met
Now it seems like we are drifting apartÂ
The fire of her touch has gone cold
Her kiss does not move me as beforeÂ
I was sure it was her fault or disinterest
Until my doctor diagnosed meÂ
With schizophrenia.
