Where Did Time Go

How did time slip by so fast, and add all these years to me;
It seems like only yesterday, when I was young and climbing trees!
Building snowmen in the winter’s fall, throwing snowballs in gleeful play;
Taking long fun trips with Mom and Dad, to places far away!
.
Summer then would come to end, and school again would start;
Class bells ringing, books in hand, girls that sped the beat my heart!
Pep rallies for our football team, games on Friday night;
Dances in the gymnasium, holding sweetheart’s hands so tight!
.
Learning how to drive a car, my parents so kind had been;
For a Plymouth Belvedere they bought me, when I was just sixteen!
A steady girl in my senior year, a little porcelain doll;
For over a year we danced and loved, two hearts were so enthralled!
.
At my high school graduation, were two hundred smiling kids;
With a few of our old teachers, who were glad of us be rid!
Three months of funs’ frivolity, then college bound was I;
But after one term I quickly dropped out, which made my parents want to cry!
.
After eight lean months of  hustling pool, a young coin dealer I became;
For numismatics was my true passion, so the profession quite easily came!
It was a great time for investors, so the cash came flying in;
I went to conventions, we did business, met girls that made my head spin!
.
The rest is all a blur to me, a fortune I made and lost;
Children, divorces, a rolling stone, never gathers any moss!
Finally I’m happily married, seventy-two but still feel like a kid;
Oh, if only we could be young again, and fifty years us both could rid!
.
A Tanka In Summation
A sagacious man
His life coming to an end
Lamented these words
“Is it not a pity that
Youth is wasted on the young”

Dear Greg,
Yes, it seems like one day we wake up, and a large part of our lives has passed by. Â That's why I ended my poem with a Tanka, about what a shame it is that "Youth" is wasted on the young, because we never truly appreciate it until we are looking back, very much older. Â Thanks for your lovely words.
Peace and Love,
Larry xxx
