Poem -

Where Was I When I Got Here

Where was I when I got to here

Not to notice the changes

And the things that divide

The questions unanswered

And the passion to hide.

Where was I when I got to here

I looked over my shoulder

And the road was so bare

Not a mark or a sign

That I had traveled there.

Where was I when I got to here

The road had turned

In the distance somewhere

And I could faintly feel it

Pulling me there.

But the pride of the man

Would not let me see clearly

And the end of the road

Hit so hard that it nearly

Shattered the man

I thought I could be

Up ahead in the distance

So far from reality.

Where was I when I got to here

In a dream there’s a place

That will never know sadness

And a heart filled with love

That can overcome madness

It’s a place that we long for

And desperately need

To be true to ourselves

And forget all the deeds

We’ve done in a way

We think can’t be forgiven

It’s a place where the heart

Is able to live

And as softly spoken

Encouragement finds us

We instinctively know

It’s forgiveness that binds us.

I appreciate the refrain--and this comes across as metaphysical. well written. well done.
