Stitches

We talk as if the seams will burst

If we say just how we feel

The stitches in this love worn fabric

Are loose and fraying badly

And if the winds of change are strong

It doesn’t matter who’s right or wrong

As we stand on either side and sadly

Watch the fabric tear

And the stitches once so strong

Break and scatter in the wind

And we drift apart and wonder

Would a stitch of kindness

Have turned the tide

A stitch of love instead of pride

A stitch of respect

With an outstretched hand

A stitch of forgiveness and

It might have held for longer

It may have made us stronger

But the winds of change are blowing

And I can barely see you now

For the fraying ends of stitches

Scattered in the wind.

this is metaphorically masterful. it captures the sad rhythm of love, as it loses its luster. but I hope that love again flourishes.
