Poem -

where we now lie

Where we now lie

In Flanders where the poppies grow

In that field is where the soldiers

Β Β Blood did flow

Why do you think the poppy is red?

The colour came from the blood of the dead

As they lay there in Flanders field

With death scattered on the ground

Some dying slowly

Β With nothing but their dreams

Β And the sound of cannon fire all around

They lay there as if they were asleep

Body’s everywhere twisted and lying in a heap

The ground that were once lushes green

Now mud oozing with red blood for all to be seen

The stretcher bearers

Trying hard to dodge the bullets

That is flying around

As they try to get the wounded

Β Of that muddy ground

Someday we will return to pay our respect

To our friends who were shot dead

And that my dear friends remember

Β It was the blood of your ancestor

That made the poppy bright red
