White Privilege

White Privilege

As a behavioral scientist
When I first heard the
term
"White Privilege"
my ears perked
up with concern....

Labels
have boxed
people
in
for
so long
in our
society
that
accepting
them
because
of political correctness
should
be questioned

When I hear
"White Privilege"
I interpret the person
saying it
to say that
because a
person
is born
white
they are
incapable of
understanding
what a person
of color
is going
through

In essence
they are
making
a
discriminating
statement
of an
Assumption

This Poet's
family members
grew up
with rocks
being thrown
at the windows
of their
home
because
they simply
were
Jewish

They were
treated
as though
they
were inferior
everywhere
they went

Even today
there are
members
of the family
who
get afraid
to disclose
their heritage
to others

Where is their "White Privilege"

Proponents of "White Privilege"
Have Often
defended this label
as it
is just fact
and to
dismiss it
is ignorant
Which translated
means
"We are enlightened"
So we are justified
in using labels,
and though
by using
it we are
in essence
creating
division,
We think correctly
so it is Okay..

No it is not Okay............

To become
a society
of tolerance
we must
first
disolve
the labels....
As labels
no matter
what the
intentions
are behind
them
are
in itself
the ingredients
to intolerance.....................

This is a phenomenal write, Greg, on such an important issue in today's world. I'm glad that someone found the courage to disclose the reality of what people go through and the pressure of being "different," or perceived as such by those who believe their skin allows them to be superior. Nobody should be accepted or shunned because of something as basic and trivial as the colour of their skin. Again, many thanks and a massive well done for coming out with this piece of work!

Thank you for reading and finding the courage to respond.  I am so against of intolerance.  However I am also against those who use Political Correctness
as a control tactic of forcing their views on others.  Racism is terrible and needs to stop, but we cannot eliminate it by using labels.
