Why Didn't Jesus Visit Allentown?

(circa 1974)
I am in third grade
and my Sunday School
teacher is telling
a story about
Jesus.
Â
Every week I hear
bout places such as
Nazareth,
Bethlehem,
Emmaus and
Egypt.
Â
These were all townsÂ
surrounding Allentown Pa.
Â
âMs. Van Skyke,
why didnât Jesus visit Allentown?
It is much nicer than Bethlehem!â
Mrs. VanSkyke laughed,
pulled out a map and showed
me were ancient Israel
was and all the towns there.
Why do we have allÂ
these bibilcal towns
in Pennsylvania?
Â
I had to go college
in New York to learn
about history in my county
in Pennsylvania.
Â
The biblical names were
mission outposts to reach
Native Americans
by the followers of Jon Hus,
or the Moravian Church
to fulfill the
Great Commission
of Jesus Christ.
There should be
a town re-named
Allentown in IsraelÂ
somewhere.
