Witness protection

Taken to a field,
being told you will die,
My only chance of escape,
Was to tell them a little lie.
They wanted my silence,
For me not to say,
What I had witnessed,
On that fateful day.
I said that I would change,
My statement in the court,
This survival tactic,
My one and only thought.
They drove me back home,
Let me out the car,
Told me not to run,
As I would not get far.
I went to the police,
Told them what they done,
All about the field,
And the real scary gun.
The police listened to my story,
They only showed me pity,
Said nothing would happen,
It's a town not a major city.
I arrived in court the next day,
Told to take a chair,
Then two men appeared,
The judge sent them to care.
I was put into a car,
Told my worst fear,
My life was now in danger,
It's time to disappear.
We drove for fifty miles,
arrived at their special place,
Told to give a statement
I should now feel safe.
Taken from my family,
Everyone I know,
Never to see my mum,
What lengths will these now go.
Where is all the justice,
The verdict was to be,
Five years each they managed,
A life sentence for me.

Great write Nick. I like poems that also tell a story. It is fiction though right? Hope so.

Thankyou Syd I appreciate the comment, I wish it was fiction.
I'm sorry to hear that it's not fiction, although it makes for a more compelling read.
I have a job that I care about, hence my anonymity. If I were in a witness protection program I would provide a lot less detail on my profile.
Just some friendly advice. I look forward to reading more from you - SydÂ
