" XANDROPHINA " Warrior of the Western Tribes....

The aspect of the assault that most daunted her, was it's unwavering ferocity
She could see that the enemy maintained their share of the upcoming atrocities
Their part of the power was vested by rotating their position from time to time
Xandrophina smirked at this, her enemy had never faced her Western tribes
And she knew from her experience that these savages were easily surprised
Her own prodigious strength making use of magically-hewn knives
Her desire for controlled bloodshed, gnawed at her to be wise
For within the coming hours there would be bloodied lives, and lost lovers
Xandrophina's lust for life was well known as leader and as lover, of others
Husbands and wives, she simply could not control her voracious appetites
For she must have 40 children, all from her forty wives
Fathered by her most trusted lovers, known as her guardian Knights
Her tribal armies were comprised of women and men
An enormous advantage over armies of men
For when in the middle of battle, women were much faster than them
With a wave of her hand ten thousand arrows were loosed
And the enemies army came charging, she sat on her steed and perused
The wholeness of the slaughter, would begin at her patient command
She waved, three separate tribes, from three separate lands
Attacking from three separate directions, began three separate cries
When suddenly Xandrophina appeared in the center of it all
And began hacking her way through the fear and fleshy walls
These savages had never seen magic at work
She had cleaved clean the heads of confusion
And layed waste to their terrified eyes in the dirt
And then vanished, leaving her armies
To kill everything else that moved,
As she sat on her steed
Adjusting her mood,
She just smiled
While wiping
the blood,
from her
Steely,
pride....

Tony I have been following your 'warrior women' series since Amazon Nation. They are all, without doubt, a triumph. Of all of them Xandrophinia is my favourite. You have really got under the skin of this warrior and I loved the whole poem. Everything excelled...metre, rhyme, enjambment, and content. Hooked me and held me to the last word. excellent!
