Yamatorige - Feathers of A Copper Pheasant

Somewhere high above
the most precariously placed
of snow-capped peaks,
bathed in those long golden
shadows of Fuji ..
She first came into our view
as if in slow motion
and began to carve a series
of near perfect circles,
figure of eights and a single
double helix with just
the tip of outstretched wings ..

A samurai sword? An ancient katana perhaps? If this is about what I am
thinking, it's a greatĀ metaphor for the yamatorige. And if it's about theĀ
flight of a pheasant, then it's beautifully described. Either way,
you win, Neville.Ā  Ā BĀ

You evidently know something about the subject Bernadete ..

Yamatorige takes its name variously from the loose translations 1) 'Feather of a Mountain Bird' and 2) 'Feathers of a Copper Pheasant'
so take your pick ..

I just missed seeing it on display when I was last in Japan and think
it was either being re-polished or something ..

I hope to see it in 2027 when I next visit ..

Kindest Regards, NevilleĀ
