You Alone

You Alone

Stop trying to be like the wild characters
You watch in movies
Like the beautiful pop stars
That marinate your ears.
Stop trying to mimic the attitudes
Of your favorite rapper
And copy the habits
Of the men who whisper lyrics
Of little value.
Stop trying to decorate yourself
As the women do on your loved magazine
And drench your soul
In the chaos
These people worship.

The moment you stop
Trying with such force
To be like everyone else
The purest form of you
Will escape the wretched prison
You’ve been hiding yourself in.

Love?
