Poem -

You and Me

It's fun to have friends from far away Lands
That speak in funny ways
They drop their consonants or their vowels
Or drawl everything they say

And though I may miss a word or two
From the context I can guess
Every meaning, every joke
Communication at its best

My Cockney mate has taught to me
Some of his rhyming slang
And nicknames for all their notes
But I never get the hang

My British girl she sounds so sweet
Just like a cuppa tea
But so regal too, just like the Queen
A Princess to a Tee

Of course I love that Scottish brogue
It just rolls off their tongue
In truth some I can't understand but
I still find it quite fun

And the Northern accents are so
Much easier to hear
My friends in Utah, speak slowly
But they are very clear

And in the State of Oregon
The softest accent yet
They laugh when I say “squir-rel”
Why? I don't quite get

And Canadians in Hawaii
‘Aloha’ instead of ‘hello’
I learnt to say “shi shi”
When to the restroom I did go

And next there is the Southern States
Now there’s an accent for y’all
Sometimes they speak with funny words
I can’t understand at all

And apparently when I speak
I forget to say my R’s
This causes lots of laughter
When I ‘Nevah evah pahk a cah”

But I have listened to my voice
From birth until this day
I cannot hear an accent
No matter what they say!

And all round the world I see
No matter, the color or creed
That friendship has no bounds
It's all the same, so heed

For I have found that humour is
A global phenomenon
And when we laugh together
The accents, there are none

And love for friends and family
Means the same the whole world wide
Even my dog knows this
Her feelings she can't hide

Now when you meet someone
Who speaks differently from you
Remember what I told you
Tell them a joke or two

Then listen carefully to their laugh
(Or giggle in my case)
It will sound just like yours
Like the smile that's on their face

So then you too will understand
What's obvious to see
We're all the same, deep down inside
We're just “People”, You and Me

This verse made me smile, I don't know why. Maybe because I'm Canadian ?
Nice work Leanan. Welcome to Cosmofunnel.
