Poem -

You slipped away didn't you

~~You cooked stew which I hated
But you bought me Clementine’s
You made me clothes I couldn’t wear
But sometimes you held me near

You shouted screamed and broke things
Once you kicked me in the ear
You tried to teach me to dance once
I sometimes wanted you near

You sat out in the garden, sunglasses and a book
You used to take a two hour bath
Occasionally you used to laugh
But never for long when he gave you that look

You sometimes heard those voices
But you bought me pink ice-cream
The days and nights were long for you
You would have chosen to stay in the dream

Then slowly you began to leave
First a careless word out of place
Forgetting the name of a loved one’s face
Eventually you forgot to breathe

You slipped away didn’t you
It was your prolonged “fuck you”
You left him with nothing at all
I take my hat off to you.
