Young Girl

Young Girl

Sparkling eyes, full of wonder and a curious hand...
A hankering for adventure and an unburdened heart.
Oh, young girl, so sweet and innocent; how I long to be like you again!
No worries of a future life, getting hurt, and possible strife...
The sun shines down as I watch you play, remembering my short days when I was your age.
Flowers seemed to talk and bunnies seemed to dance, old houses seemed mysterious and the bee's wore pants.
Learning to write and how to talk...
Learning what words hurt and others not.
But I grow older and lament back on my past, I see what I kept and what I've mislead.
"Don't talk to strangers."
And, "keep your hands to yourself!"
I learned that a stranger was my best-friend and my hands could tell stories better than my mouth.
"Listen to your parents and love God."
That's harder said than done...
When all your parent's taught you was how to fight and run.
"Don't stick out your tongue!"
"Stay quiet while I'm talking."
"Don't fill up on candy or you'll get sick."
"Stay away from bad guys, eat your veggies, and don't let boys kiss you on the lips!"
"Boys have cooties and share your toys."
Yes, I know, small one, you won't understand now, but keep those rules any how.
For if you break the rules before it's time, you'll end up like me and miss being blind.
