Exonerated

Exonerated

1. A twine of thorns clinging to my flesh
Around my wrist, my upper hand
A pin drop of a bloody gob
Is this what my protection has caused Your love
Mindlessness- Due to the absence of earnest prayer
ā€œā€¦ They know not what they do..ā€
As I cast my lot, into the ashes of earth
The dust - It knows me, where I came from

2. Exonerate me from all my shame and guilt - Cleanse me full
A soul wondering amongst this desert
I held my silver shield over my chest with the rays beating down
Iā€™ve always picked myself up, Iā€™ve forever carried the burden that weighs me down
ā€˜Forgive me, Fatherā€¦ā€™ I sprint to the mountain caves - jagged rocks - Naked and torn
Ā
3. The lots I cast drew up a play
Bets on my life I could not keep
I fell on my knees- Already bruised and swollen
The darkness smoking, engulfing my heaven
Reaching out my hands - fingers of thorns - wanting to graze yours - Power in the unbroken
Light and glory filled the hiding place, with my shield rusted and bent, I could not cover my naked, disfigured face

4. A single outstretched hand, with a deep scar in the centre - Mystics would whisper it wasĀ  between the lines of love and life - Marks of the Creator
I describe it as the defeat of death in a tomb
Rising to ascension and giving proof
That maybeĀ  I donā€™t have to wrap a crown of thorns around my hands
Claiming it was my weapon against those who tried to harm me
That the ones on his temples were there for me instead

5. I stared at His hand - He waited for me
ā€˜Should I take it, or should I bare the weight; heroic in my hellā€™
Ā A tear glistened on my cheek, I had been strong for many years
Still in the cavern, my body shook
I began to lose my conscience - and as my body went limp from my knees to the rock floor
His arms caught me

6. I was alone no more
Ā
