Poem -

Your Eyes

I think of that day so long ago,
when my eyes first became acquainted with yours.
You looked away when I couldn't bring myself to.
I should've known then
that you would become a regret,
But I didn't.
So I waited for your eyes
to reach mine once more.
While we laughed
and lived
and learned what love was.
While you told me THIS was special
and promised me the rest of your life.
While you learned of my broken pieces and swore to fit them back together
While I watched your eyes...
while I watched them grow colder as the winter months blew in.
And then, in my doorway,
I looked at them one last time
through the tears as you were leaving,
Holding your things
while I was barely holding myself together.
