A Voice Of Reason
A lonely traveler was once traveling alone in an unknown kingdom. The kingdom was great and the cities and the towns had vast and tumultuous crowds. He spent a long time here studying the people, their land and their ways. Their rulers were often wicked, and seldom good. Some people prospered while others suffered greatly. The people themselves were a mixture of characters; some good and some evil, making it hard for him to get along at times. He experienced great hardship among them sometimes, and at other times he had all the pleasures of life at his disposal. He grew old in this strange land, and one day, he went and sat under a willow tree down by the river, and wished to contemplate the meaning of it all. Good and evil, hardship and joy, justice and injustice; was all around him for all time to come. ‘What then could be the meaning and the purpose of it all?’ he asked himself. And he sat for a very long time seeking the answer to this great elusive question, pondering the mysteries of man, life and the ages. Yet one day, as he sat pondering still under the weeping willow, the answer came to him as in a dream; ‘Adhere to Your Principles and Value All Men Equally – That Is the Meaning and the Purpose of It All.’ His soul was at peace at last, as the breeze filtered gently through the willow, and the blue stream cobbled on silently into the distant blue hills.
