The Adventures of Bucktoothed Charlie the Four Eyed Skunk

Just outside the Shady Forest lived a little skunk named Bucktooth Charlie, which was short for Charlene. She had lots of friends, bunnies, squirrels, raccoons, but her best friend was weasel, Newtonious J. Fluffynoggin; her friends called her Newton. She came from a long line of Fluffynoggins.

   One day while they were playing Bucktooth Charlie ran into the rope that was holding up the blanket that hid the entrance to their tree house. “Bucktooth Charlie!!!” said Newton, “You knocked it down again!” Bucktooth Charlie said, “I’m sorry, I didn’t see it!”

   Newton saw a large scrape by Bucktooth Charlie’s eye. “Wow! Did you do that on the rope?” said Newton. “You better go home and show that to your mom.”

   So Bucktooth Charlie went home. “Mom, I’m home, my eye hurts.” Her mom said, “Oh my goodness, what happened to your eye Charlie?” Bucktooth Charlie explained how somehow she kept running into the rope at their tree house. Her mom said, “I think I know what’s going on.” She cleaned the scrape; put some stinky stuff on it, and a bandage.

   Then mom said, “It’s time for bed Charlie.” She gave Bucktooth Charlie a huge kiss and a big hug, “Good night Charlie”, said mom. “I love you mommy,” Said Bucktooth Charlie.

   In the morning, very early, mom woke up Bucktooth Charlie. She said, “We have something very important to do today.” They walked all the way to Dr. Owl’s house. It did not hurt but Dr. Owl looked very close at Bucktooth Charlie’s eyes. Dr. Owl told Bucktooth Charlie’s mom, “These should do the trick.” He handed her a small package, and his mom thanked Dr. Owl and they went home.

   On the way home Bucktooth Charlie was very curious, “What did Dr. Owl give you mom?” Mom said, “He gave me some glasses to help you see.” Bucktooth Charlie said, “I don’t want no stupid glasses!” “They will make me look so ugly, and everybody will laugh at me!”

   But you need them to see. When you wear your glasses you will not run into the rope any more, and you may see things that you have never seen before.

   “You have to wear them every day now,” said her mother. When they got home, Bucktooth Charlie tried on the glasses. “Wow mommy,” “I can really see a lot better,” said Bucktooth Charlie.

   The next day Bucktooth Charlie could not wait to show her friends her new glasses. Newton said, “Oh boy Bucktooth Charlie, I really like your new glasses.” Ricky the raccoon said, “Hey, they make you look a little older and very smart.

   “Can I try them on Bucktooth Charlie?” said Ricky. “No, No, me first,” said Newton. “They are mine,” said Bucktooth Charlie, “I can’t see without them.” Bucktooth Charlie told them how her mom said they are not a toy. They are a very special tool to help her see. But most importantly, nobody was laughing.
