Are They Okay?
It was October of 1993, the 23rd to be exact. I was coming home from a house party with my husband, Jack. Jack was a charming, handsom man. Deep brown eyes, soft black hair, naturally tanned skin, and that thick shadow on his face. He's a 6'1 man with the tendancy of attracting every women in the room. And me, a brunette with bright blue eyes with that faint hint of grey anyone would notice if they looked in them. I was dressed in my best dress that night, and Jack, in his best suit. We had a wonderful time that night. There was drinking, eating and laught that could be heard from across the room. After about 12:30am, we startimg thinking it was time to head home. It was late and raining very hard. The rain was so heavy you couldnt see a mere 4 feet ahead of you. "Sarah, I think we should spend the night here. The rain is way too heavy. We'd crash out there.", " Jack, you know we can't. We have kids waiting for us at home and it's way past when we said we'd be home. They're probably scared." After saying that we both began to think...and started to realize that the kids never called like they should have. I began getting very worried. So, I told my husband to call himself. But the problem was, Our friends house was out in the country so we had a very hard time getting a signal. Finally, we got a signal and began to dial the number, *ringing* by the time the ringing stopped..there was no answer. "Why arent they answering?" I said to Jack. Jack replied, "I don't know. Maybe we should head back. I'm really worried now too. Let's go. Hurry up!". On the way out our friend and also the host of the party, Linda, stopped us and said, " Is everything okay? You seem very worried, are you and the kids okay? " Jack seem very suspicious of Linda. He never seemed to like her. The bright green-eyed, dirty blonde, slightly tan women I've known since the 4th grade? No, she wouldn't hurt me or the kids. Would she? I couldn't help myself but think this to myself as I seemed to look into her eyes and started to wonder. I finally answered the question, "We're fine. Everything is fine. We just needed to get home. We forgot that we left the kids there." I seem to speak fast anyone that heard me would know I was nervous. Linda seemed to stare at me as if I was a lunatic as I spoke. "Never mind. We're fine. Were in a hurry, and can't stay much longer. Were sorry for leaving like this but we don't have time to talk. Thank you so much for inviting us to the party. It was great!" The smile on my face said that I was about to start freaking out even more than I already was. She didn't even get to say another word and we were already out the door. "Hurry up Jack!" "I'm coming!" After practically trudging through the mud, we finally reached the car and began to call again. "Well, what are you waiting for call!" Jack seemed to be a little mad at my demand since he was going as fast as he could. A couple seconds later the phone began to ring, *ring, ring, ring* Again, no answer. I was about to panic now. The oldest was only our 14 year old daughter Clairissa, the youngest was 8 months old Justin. The middle kids were 11 year old Daniel, 10 year old Derek and 7 year old Natasha. I felt very uneasy about leaving them to begin with. Let alone having to drive and hour just to get home when they aren't answering the phone. "They're probably sleeping." Jack seemed sure of himself. But I wasn't. After being on the road for a little over an hour we finally arrived back home, we ended up calling over 12 times with not a single answer. No text. No call. No relief. We bolted up the door expecting to find them awake and yell at them. But that's not what happened. I reached into my purse, pulled out a sliver with the word "HOME" engraved on it, put the key in the lock, and turned it. *Click* The door was unlocked. BEFORE I turned the key. "Jack?" "What? Won't it unlock?". He noticed a sense of fear in the look on my face. He didn't get a chance to ask what was wrong as I was already opened the door. *Creek, Squeak* Ive never heard such eerie creek, the creeking sound of the Floor and door of our old house sent chills up my spine like never before. My face was pace as a ghost, my spine tingling, my hand sweaty, with fear. Jack was the same as we began to walk through the house until finally Jack whispered, " I'm going to check upstairs. You search down here." My first thought when I heard his deep voice say that was "What if..." What if there's more than who should be in this house? What if the neighbors we asked to check on the kids hurt them? What if someone hurt the kids AND the neighbors we asked to check on the kids? What if... I felt more fear then ever as I walked from the entryway to the living room to the kitchen. The wind whistling softly through the trees for a couple seconds, and then picking up and then whistling softly again. The floor boards creek with every step I take, *Creek, Creek, Creek* My heart pounding, my breathing was so heavy anyone and everyone could hear it. Sweat was running down my face. I was terrified of what awaited me. I decided to check the basement. I went to the door, put my hand on the knob and turned it. I tried to turn on the light and realized, power was out. I took the flashlight on the table next to me and turned it on. It flickered for a second or two till it finally turned on. I was about to take a step forward, until I looked... And saw Ms. Turner. Our neighbor. Hanging from the light. Her throat slit, her clothing stained with blood. There was holes in her clothes indicating that she was also stabbed. I was so scared that I couldn't even scream. The blood dripping from her clothes, hands all the way down to her feet, forming a puddle below her. The sight was truly horrific, disgusting, and scaring to see. My mind was blank for several seconds until I saw something move behind her corpse. I started to listen..*bang, Bang, BANG* It sounded like someone was coming up the stairs behind the corpse. Mrs. Turner's corpse was watching me. The cold, dead stare in her eyes was telling me to run. It only took me a couple seconds to do so. So I ran through the house screaming for Jack. "Jack! Jack! We need to leave!" No Answer. I ran upstairs to try and find the kids and Jack. I threw open every door in the hallway. Nobody in any of them. So I ran up to the attic. Once again calling Jack's name. I locked the door behind me hoping to buy some time. I started calling his name a little more softly so whoever else was in the house wouldn't hear me. "Jack...?" I was quite for a second. Then, I hear a shuffling sound in the corner of the room. "Sarah? Is that you?" "Jack? Yes its me! We need to leave where are you and the kids?" I turned around to see them all behind me. A sight of relief and pure fear at the same time. We were too busy talking to notice the footsteps coming up the attic stairs. *BANG! BANG! BANG!* We didn't know what to do. So we climbed out the window. We grabbed out rope and got the kids out on by one. Jack help the rope while I and Justin went down the rope. By then the door was cracked and about to break. I got down the rope and waited for Jack to get down somehow. There dead silence for a second. Then you heard it. The man broke down the door. Jack didn't have enough time to get out the window couldn't run fast enough. The last thing we heard was Jack's scream while we were running to the car. We got in and drove away. The cops showed up hours later from the other neighbors calling and telling them about hearing screaming. The bodies were never found and neither was the man. The only things that were found was a little blood and my family and i's fingerprints. No ones else's. When I told them my story they said the was evidence that it actually happened and that it was in my head. I told Linda and she said the same. No one believed us. No ever believed the truth.
Sorry if it waSnt that good! ITs my first story!
