Elite

Sirey knew something was not right the moment she stepped into the director's office. The grim expression on his face was enough to hint she shouldnât mosey. Clearing her throat she drew Director Isenâs attention.
âYou wanted to see me, Sir?â
Director Isen nodded, âSaradon, you are now in charge of collecting reports.â Sirey stared at him dumbfounded. Here she had hoped that she was finally going out to fight against Darkness. Not become a paperboy for the First.
âDoesnât Cadet Axle do that?â She knew she should not ask questions, but she could not help it. Director Isen sighed and leaned back in his chair.
âThatâs the problem Cadet Axle is out fighting against  Darkness.â He looked up at her before speaking again, âWhich reminds me Saradon, I also have a special mission for you.â
Sirey glared at him, âGet your suits to do it.â She hissed and then mentally kicked herself for talking back  her superior, but she couldnât help it. A cadet was out fighting in the war and yet here she was, a Second, and she was still sitting around CETH HQ being a paperboy. It made her blood boil just at the thought of it.
âReport back here in the next hour for the full briefing. Now run along and collect the reports.â if her comment made any effect Isen didnât show it. He simply dismissed her and went back to his work. Letting out a defeated sigh Sirey left, the sliding door hissing open as she passed through. At least she wasnât the only one being held back. News was the General along with his second command were not permitted to fight. They were cooped up in their offices doing nothing but paperwork.
She could remember the day a few Seconds rushed into the cafeteria their clothes were singed and they kept looking behind them for an unknown reason. Later everyone found out Commander Valentine had taken his anger and boredom out on them, by setting them on fire with a low level spell.
Sirey stopped in front of one of the elevators and pushed the button for the First Eliteâs office floor. She waited patiently for the doors to open Sirey really didnât want to be late considering most of the First class were busy and not to mention short tempered. She jumped when the doors dinged open before her, quickly She stepped in and waited for them to close again. Luckily the elevator was empty, so she wouldnât have to deal with all the strange stares. Unlike most elevators CETHâs did not have the annoying music playing instead it was quiet. She watched as each floor lit up as she passed finally she made it to floor 50 and the door dinged open again.
It was odd to be in the office area of the First Class. Sirey had only been there once at that was when she had become a second. Now here she was once again staring down the door filled hallway. White wall rose up around her and reflected the same red carpet all of CETHâs office floors seemed to have.
âMight as well get this over withâŚâ She muttered under her breath, hesitantly she took a step out of the elevator and glanced around the hallway. Silence.
âSirey you are such a fraidy-cat⌠they wonât kill you, maybe.â She scolded to herself. Letting out a shaky sigh Sirey made for the first office. Luckily for her, there was only three first at Headquarters. Slowly she approached the first door and read the name plate;  Nix Valentine.
âcroud.. Maybe I should skip his for lastâŚâ Sireyâs enhanced hearing could hear the slight shuffling of papers. âYeah best to wait.â Sirey turned to move for the next door when Valentineâs door flew open.
âI thought I heard someone outside my door.â A semi deep accented voice snarled behind her. Sireyâs face pale and her stomach seemed to fall to the floor. âoh crap.â
âWhat do you want soldier?â Nix Valentineâs slightly accented voice hissed behind her.  Swallowing hard, Sirey turned around slowly to face the fiery commander.
Nix Valentine stood a good six inches above her. His auburn hair fell just a little below his shoulders in jagged cuts. His choppy bangs covered his right eye, which was a bright blue with a strange blackish glowing tint. The rumors were right about his feminine features. If she did not know better she would of thought he was one. With the hourglass like body most men did not have and his fair features, she could see where people would think that. He wore the standard First Elite uniform along with knee high combat boots, that had a little bit of a heel. A crimson dagger like necklace hung from his neck. Mostly likely had a flame crystal in it.
Sirey took an involuntary step back. âSorry Sir, Iâm just here to collect reports and all for the director.â She tried to keep her voice steady.
Nix looked down at her, studying her with slight amusement. âYouâre a female.â he stated after a while. Sirey started blankly at his statement. Wasnât it obvious or was he some idiot?
âThank you captain obviousâŚâ She muttered under her breath, praying Valentineâs hearing wasnât as good as rumored.
Nix raised an eyebrow.âWhat was that?â
Sirey smiled sheepishly and nervously scratched at the back of her head, âNothing Sir.â
Nixâs glare proved that he did not believe her for one second. âAre you sure SoldierâŚ?â
   âSaradon.â
He gave her a puzzled expression, âSaradonâŚâ He looked up at her like he remembered something about her, âdidnât we train together during our cadet years?â
Sirey nodded slightly. She remembered very well her days of when she first became a cadet and trained to become an Elite. Everyone thought she would run off and join the Shadows like most females, but she proved them wrong by sticking through the rough training.  Â
Nix was never really liked by anyone in their cadet years. He was bullied a lot and unlike his friend Seth Vincent  he never really stood out. He tried to be someone, even when they always paired him with her. He ignored all the insults thrown at him and quickly rose to the top. It was odd standing before him as a Second Elite. She could've been a First if the scientists would approve her paperwork.
She looked up at the Crimson Commander, he seemed just as lost in thought as her. Â Most likely remembering that there was only three of them left from that generation; him, Seth and her.
Nix snapped out of his thought and glared at her. âWhy are you even collecting paperwork? Are you too weak to fight or what?â He smirked at her when she let out a low growl.
Sirey hated how he had to point that out to her. Looking down she let out a sad sigh. âThey wonât let me fight⌠instead they send me on stupid missions.â She murmured and looked away.
Nix seemed to tilt his head, almost like a confused puppy.
âYou too huh?â he asked amusement on his voice. Sirey glanced up at him confused by his words. Nix let out a sigh, âIâm too âdangerousâ around the lower ranks.â  He shrugged before turning back to his office, signaling that their conversation was over. The doors hissed open as he disappeared inside leaving Sirey to process his words. So they do not trust his strenght. Did it go the same for the General as well? In her opinion they should just turn the Trinity loose out there. Darkness would be destroyed in a matter of days and the war would be over. No more countless lives being lost and money being spent. Valentineâs office doors slide open again causing Sirey to jump slightly.
Nixâs gloved hand held out a stack of papers. âNow donât bother me again.â  With that he turned around swiftly, his coppery colored hair flashing a brilliant red in the fake lighting.
Slowly the events that just considered sunk in. Did she really just survive an encounter with the crimson commander and not get burned to a crisp? She had to tell Anna. But first, Sirey stared determinedly at the remaining office doors. A mission to accomplish.
