Girl of Prey Ch.2 “Awakening”

She couldn’t see, the force of the wind keeping her eyes firmly shut. At first she thought she was still falling, till she felt arms wrapped securely around her torso with her back pressed against their chest. ‘This guy must be really tall’ she thought to herself, ‘to be able to carry me so quickly with my feet no where near the ground.’ Her head was pounding, the loss of adrenaline making her fatigued, and her leg hurt. Becoming slightly more conscious of her surroundings, she heard the distinct sound of frantically flapping, very large wings; and a repeated mantra said in a raspy, panicked voice, “Dayaheeday Ebah Tahenoday Eesaheelpay!”
It sounded worried almost, if the tone was anything to go by. The voice itself sounded as if it hadn’t been used in a long time. With the little strength she could muster, the girl pried her eyes open to glimpse her savior. What she saw instead made her eyes shoot wide open. Trees flying past her at break-neck speeds with the occasional flash of feathers in her peripheral and, as she looked at the arms holding her she saw soft black down in place of arm hair and talons for fingernails.
A new surge of adrenaline fueled by fear flooded her veins, along with a fresh wave of pain from her leg. The multiple sensations combined with the surrealness of her situation brought on a blissful unconsciousness.
~timeskip~
She still wasn’t sure why she’d saved this girl. She had acted purely of instinct when she had leapt over the cliff side, but she didn’t regret it. But now she had no idea what to do; she couldn’t take her home because she didn’t know where that was and she didn’t want to get spotted, and she couldn’t just leave her there because she was wounded from the fall. And the creature did not want to be the cause of a sentient being’s death. So bringing the girl to her nest seemed like the best option at the time.
Now that they were hear though, with the blonde settled neatly in the harpy’s nest and her satchel off to the side, the air was thick with anxiety. Should she wake her up? Let her wake on her own? Tend her wounds? She settled on the third option and began rifling through the various piles of stuff scattered amongst the small cabin. Finding a few first aid kits stolen from campers, she brought her payload over to the still sleeping human and sat beside her as gently as her frame would allow.
Not really knowing where to start, she sat there for a moment to pull herself together. ‘She didn’t hit the bottom, she didn’t hit her head, it’s just her leg’ she repeated in her head to ground herself. Her clawed hands shook as she peeled back the girl’s jeans to inspect the damage. She heaved a sigh of relief, it wasn’t bad and she wouldn’t need stitches, but there was some heavy scraping, bruises, and bleeding. It wasn’t life threatening but it would be if it got infected, so she got to work.
She didn’t look up again until after securing the final bandage. She did the best she could given her limited knowledge on first aid. The girl was still thankfully out cold, but her expression had relaxed considerably and her breathing had evened out so the harpy took that as a good sign. She gathered her supplies and stood to put them away; as she stood though, a stray feather brushed the girl’s cheek.
She groaned herself awake and blinked blearily. “Ugh, my leg... w-where am- WHAT IN THE GREAT HAM IS THAT?!”

This took way longer than it should have to get done, I originally planned for it to be way longer. By then it got too long in comparison to ch.1 so I cut it in half at the place that I did. The second half is where names will be revealed, but it’s gonna be labeled as ch.3. Sorry for the weirdness, over and out!
I found a typo and corrected it, sorry for the inconvenience
My dad didn’t like that there was profanity so I used a substitute:/ sorry frennz over and out
I love this! Awesome work! That last sentence though... made me laugh.
