Hard Vanilla Lines

One minute, she was on the floor, suffocating under the glass table.
The next, she was falling down a kaleidoscope.
Not a literal one. Or at least she didn't think. More figuratively, for the colors all blended together in galactic mosaics and sparking puzzle pieces. She fell listlessly and felt nothing. Her slip was an effortless summer sky blue and she was missing her shoes. Her hair hung in damp blonde ringlets around her and her eyes were puffy and red. Falling with her were pictures of smiling men and women. Cutely flushed children and playful pets. As she tumbled further, she was greeted with that of pearls and feathers and glamorous sparkling crystals.
She lulled dreamily until she slowed down and dropped to the ground delicately, like a snowflake. Here she sat up and felt the grass. It was covered in a fine powder. As were the trees and the roses.
The girl laughed lightly. She brushed herself off and was greeted with that of an array of characters.
There were humanoid animals and suited men and Victorian women and buglers and pompous authoritative figures.
There were dogs in waist coats; dapper and profound, their checkered bowties were perfectly straight.
Elegant flamingos were wearing sunhats and carrying small, bejeweled purses. There were frogs wearing patterned blazers and cats in silk organza gowns.
The women were dressed in balls gowns with optical illusions as patterns. Psychedelic fits of fancy swirled around themselves as flowers frolicked along the bodices. The men wore suits of crimson and ebony velvet with marble cuff links.
Everyone was staring at the girl as they cleared a path and a woman with sharp eyes, dressed in a white gown splattered with red something or other, can into view.
The girl smiled dreamily and her head began to lull.
Her hair was in a tight black bun and she had a scowl on her face. She went up and took the girls' chin her hands, tilting it up so that their eyes met.
The girl stared back. The woman sighed. "Calling it. Off with her head."
Of course, Alice didn't need her head.
Her heart had stopped beating long before she entered the Kingdom.
