Heaven

Heaven

The light could be scene for miles on end. It was a clinical white light. The sign was obtrusive and hard on the eyes. A devoid neon light. If one could even call it ‘neon’. It flicked coldly now and again. The word was spelled out in a very robotic cursive.

‘Heaven.’

It was a brick building, very solid with a low bass seeping out from the cracks. Curious little thing. It had an ironic name and an even more ironic purpose. A white, velvet carpet lead out to the street. Upon taking off your shoes and trotting on it, you will reach the lobby. A smoking lounge as it were. Puffs of white smoke encircle each visitor as they take the shape and essence of the guest. They then disappear through one of the many vents.

Past the curtains is the main floor. A colored light show of obnoxiousness that is droll yet iconic. Each person dances along to a different playlist of songs. No one really knows how this happens but everything’s so enticing. The music has no words; yet it’s alive. It growls and chuckles and hungers for more. The dancing is the like floating and the drinks are light and sparkling. There are no bouncers or even a DJ. Just a dance floor with a single, ominous window high up on the wall. Or so it seems. It could be just floating. Tinted black and casting a shadow. Or it could be a combination of the colored smoke and dizzying music. Or the ghastly amount of pills on the floor.

The people are ephemeral. They dance in white wigs and metallic outfits. Glitter and white lipstick adorn the girls and white eye liner appears on the guys. . An ebony girl with hair the color of hospital walls and secrets of the damned. A ghostly young man with shoulder length lavender hair and balled up fists. It’s an array of diversity and color. But not really. None of this is planned. Nothing is planned. Just people who happen to be sharing a space. People who have no idea why they are there but they are. People who, no matter how hard they try, will not remember the night in the morning.

Once you enter Heaven, you forget.
