Kicking The Habit

My uncle died on June 12, 2001, which was eighteen years ago today. His name was Norman Greene. He died of lung cancer at the age of fifty-six. For many years he lived with his father. His dad wouldn't let him have a TV or even a radio in the house and because Norman didn't work, he spent all day smoking. He smoked three or four packs of cigarettes each day and sadly, it killed him. He smoked so much because he had nothing else to do.

I will be turning forty-eight this August. My 56th birthday is only eight years away. I quit smoking because I was afraid that I might also die at the age of 56 if not younger. If you're a smoker, you can also quit if you so desire. I'm not going to preach to you and say that you should quit. It's your life and you can do what you want. But if you do want to quit, here is what you should do. Don't try to quit cold turkey. Wear nicotine patches for at least one week. Also, buy a lot of candy. Every time you crave a cigarette, suck on a piece of candy instead.

If you want to quit, it will improve your health. Smoking was making me cough up phlegm. But now that I've quit smoking, I've quit coughing up phlegm as well. Stopping smoking will also save you a shit load of money. If you smoke cigarettes that cost $5 per pack, you have to pay a lot of cash. If you quit, you can save that money to buy a used car or maybe take a cruise. If you smoke and really want to quit, I wish you the best. Good luck.
