Konan and the Christmas tree

Once upon a time there was a penguin named Konan, now Konan was no ordinary penguin, you see Konan lived in Chicago. He lived there with his beeeest friend in the whole wide world. Her name was Melody, now melody wasn’t a bad girl, she was just curious, but her curiosity had a way of getting her into trouble, and it was always up to Konan the get her out of it.

One day melody was acting exceptionally excited about something, she refused to sit still and she kept crumpling up her papers after only writing a few lines Konan was very curious indeed as to what melody could be so excited about. finally while running through the house melody screamed quite excitedly ITS ALMOST CHRISTMAS!!!! she stopped right in front of Konan and said today were going to go hunting for a Christmas tree Konan, with this Konan replied with his typical response......peep which only melody could understand and probably meant something along the lines of.....(what’s a Christmas tree?) with that melody answered, once a year Santa Claus comes around on Christmas eve and gives kids presents for all the good children of the world, it’s my favorite holiday said melody , melody’s smile was from ear to ear and whenever melody was happy Konan was happy too. Melody ran up to her dad and made the most puppy faced goo goo eyed look she could and said can Konan come with us when we go hunting for a Christmas tree? Plllleeeeeeaaasssse pretty pretty please with a cherry on top? and of course his daughter being his only weakness her father said yes. melody leaped into the air with a yippee!  Konan did the same because everything melody did Konan wanted to do too, Konan’s leap was more of a skip because konans aren’t very good jumpers. Melodies father laughed heartedly at the sight of a penguin trying to copy his daughter  he was happy that he let melody keep Konan because Konan was her best friend.

Later that day, they all loaded up in the car along with melodies mom and baby brother and she buckled Konan into a car seat which Konan didn’t like very much but melody told him it was to keep him safe and he trusted her so he didn’t complain. Suddenly melody shouted WAIT! she leaped out of the car before it was turned on ran inside and grabbed Kona’s back pack because obviously all penguins need back packs especially when it has all of the snacks and looks like a miniature penguin. Once she got it she ran back to the car and got in her seat buckling her seat belt right away and she shouted AWAAAY WE GO! While pointing her finger out like a baseball player Konan did the same only he squawked which made melody and her dad laugh.

The drive was very long indeed melody watched Dr. who, her favorite show in the whole wide world on the tiny dvd player she even had a play sonic screw driver that she kept in the seat fold in the back of her mom’s seat just for such an occasion. She was just about to finish the 2nd episode when her dad announced that they had arrived. Konan had fallen asleep so melody unbuckled her seat belt, then got him out and carried him out of the car before he woke up. Konan did not like being carried so he scurried his little flipper feet to let her know he wanted to be put down. She did and then put his tiny penguin back pack on him and then they held flipper and hand and walked off with melody’s mother and father into the Christmas tree forest.

Konan grew up in a place very different than melody and he had never seen so many pine trees before he didn’t really understand what it was that made melody so excited about getting a Christmas tree, but it made him happy to see her so happy, also Konan really liked the snow it made him feel more at home, and there was lots of it in this forest. Konan did his best to keep up waddeling like he does but melody and her parents simply walked too fast so Konan did the only other thing he knew to do he laid out on his belly and slid. Melody had never seen Konan do this before she thought it was really cool so she tried it herself, only when she laid down, her face got all snowy, and she couldn’t slide like Konan. Melody’s mom helped her get up and brushed the snow from Melody’s face the entire time Konan was just sliding along making it all look so easy. Finally they came upon a tree that was not too tall, or too short, wasn’t missing too many branches, and didn’t look like it was dying in any particular way, melodies father said this is the one, in a raised voice as to grab the attention of his entire family. Even baby jr. seemed to like it because he giggled and reached for it saying something like eekyat which one can only wonder what he said but at the very least he appeared to like it. Melodies father began to swing slow at first then he gained a steady rhythm.

Melody could only watch as her father showed off his manly strength. Behind her melody saw a snowy owl and decided to investigate, but when she got close the owl flew off and melody quickly followed after it, she thought it was so pretty with its feathers matching the snow. It wasn’t long before she lost it, and she looked around to see were her mommy and daddy were, but they were no were to be seen.

Konan had quickly realized that melody was gone, and right away notified melody’s mother. Her family was almost used to things like this happening. They were definitely worried but they knew they should follow her tracks since they were the only ones out there. Konan took the lead with a fast pace, and melody’s father followed close behind. Mother took baby Jr. to the car so he wouldn’t get too cold.

Melody’s father was surprised at how far his daughter had traveled in such a short time he kept calling out, MELODY! And in turn Konan would SQUAAAKK because only melody understood how to speak Konan. Eventually they found her she was sleeping next to a deer when the deer saw melody’s father it got up and let him get to her. Melody’s dad wanted to thank the deer with a carrot but it was already gone. Konan scurried to melody’s side as fast as his little feet could go and with his flippers he tried to shake her franticly in fluent Konan saying peep peeep pepepepepeeep  and sure enough in a groggy voice melody answered back, peep. Melody’s father picked her up and held her close in his arms. This time Konan sat on melody to keep her warm. He took her back to the car and left her with her mommy and Konan, then walked all the way back, and retrieved the super special Christmas tree then dragged it all the way back by himself, strapped it to the roof of the car, and then after words bought the entire family hot chocolate, Jr. settled for a chocolate milk because his gums were sensitive to the heat. Melody apologized for walking off and explained the pretty bird that she saw she said it looked like the bird from the harry potter books her mother would always read to her. Meanwhile Konan was chowing down on a can of sardines and ice cream his favorite snack. He paused and looked at her with angry eyes and said in perfect penguin (what kind of bird could possibly be cooler than me? I’m a penguin I’m about as cool as birds can get) Melody laughed because she thought what Konan said was funny and her parents laughed at her because they still can’t believe she actually understands anything Konan says. Once they finished their hot coco and chocolate milk they headed home, and got ready for bed and then melody and Konan dreamed of all new adventures that might have Konan wondered still why they had spent the whole day chopping down a tree and then planted it back inside the house, people are very weird indeed he thought. As minutes passed their eyes grew heavy and they all fell asleep and dreamed of days to come as the dreams drew on they knew they would all live happily ever after.
