Leakey Socket Sapsucker of the South

Alicia Socket was a Yellow Bellied Sapsucker; she was raised in the south. The day she moved into the Shady forest she made friends with a Mohawk-bat named Ethan, he was a lot of fun. Ethan showed her around the Shady Forest, and gave her the nickname, Leaky Socket.

One day they were both talking to Sticky the Red-eyed Tree Frog, because they all like to eat bugs. They were all naming their favorite bugs to eat, when Sticky asked, “Have you ever met Cyndi the Centipede.” Leaky Socket said, “No, but she sounds delicious.” Sticky said, “Oh you’ll never catch Cyndi the centipede.

“Why is that?” asked Leaky. “Because Cyndi the Centipede is the fastest one in all of Shady Forest.” said Sticky, “Nobody will ever catch Cyndi.” “I know I tried a few times my self,” said Ethan the Mohawk Bat, “But all I ever got, was worn-out!” “She ran me ragged.”

“Well I would still like to meet her,” said Leaky Socket, so the next day they all went to Cyndi the Centipede’s house. Cyndi was talking to Perry the Porcupine about taking a ride down the hill. After Leaky Socket met Cyndi the Centipede and Perry the Porcupine, they all sat around talking about the ride down the hill.

Cyndi wanted to use a log from the old tree that fell down last year during the BIG STORM. Perry said, “That tree will be great!” Leaky Socket the Sapsucker, Ethan the Mohawk Bat and Sticky the Red-eyed Tree Frog all wanted to ride down the hill too! Leaky asked, “Is it big enough for all of us?”  “Yea,” said Cyndi, “it’s huge!” Leaky said, “We’ll help.”
They started working on the log to get it ready for all of them to ride. Ethan said, “We need more help, I’m going to go ask Buster the Beaver if he will help us.”

When Ethan found Buster, he was with Bucktooth Charlie the Skunk and Newtonious J. Fluffynoggin the Weasel. Ethan told Buster about the project that everyone else was working on, and Buster, Newton, and Bucktooth Charlie wanted in on it too!
So, they all followed Ethan back to Cyndi’s house. Buster the Beaver was in charge of this amazing and exciting project, because he has the most building experience.

They all worked very hard for two days. They ate all the bugs, picked off all the extra branches & leaves, and chewed all the bark off the huge log. Then Buster the Beaver, hollowed out the log with his big teeth.
“The log is almost ready for the big ride,” said Buster. “We can only ride this log down the hill one time. We have no way to get it back up the hill, so we want to do it right the first time.”

Buster told Leaky Socket that the log was done. “IT’S ALL DONE,” yelled Leaky Socket, “Now first thing tomorrow morning we can all meet here for the big ride down the hill.” “HAY!,” suggested Leaky Socket, “Why don’t we plan the whole day around THE BIG RIDE!”
“Wow, that’s a great idea,” said Ethan, “I will bring the spider web cookies.” Bucktoothed Charlie said, “I’ll bring the sandwiches.” Newton said, “I will bring a BIG salad.” Sticky the red-eyed tree frog said, “I will bring my favorite; green swamp Jell-o, with red ants, gnats and blow flies in it.”

“Then I will bring the punch,” said Leaky Socket, “and we will all meet at Cyndi the Centipede’s house at noon!” So they all went home and got every thing ready for the party.
The next day they all showed up at Cyndi’s house with picnic baskets and blankets, ready for the BIG DAY. They all went down to the clearing where the big log was, set up their picnic area, and had a wonderful lunch together.

Leaky Socket was the first to climb on the BIG LOG, “Come on Ethan,” said Leaky. Then Ethan, Newton and Bucktooth Charlie got on. Next were Perry, Cyndi and Sticky. Buster got on last. They all scooted up kind of close.

“Ready?  Here we go!” shouted Leaky. They started down the hill. Ethan was the first one to fall off, because bats are use to hanging upside down. They are not very good at hanging on right side-up.

Just then, they hit a bump and went into the air. Perry the Porcupine got scared, and when porcupines get scared their quills shoot out. One of the quills hit Buster the Beaver and he fell off. Another quill hit Bucktooth Charlie the skunk, and when skunks get scared, it’s bad news.

Bucktooth Charlie farted, and then she fell off. That’s the smell that knocked off Newtonious J Fluffynoggin the weasel and Perry the porcupine. When Perry fell off, he knocked off Cyndi the Centipede and Sticky the red-eyed tree frog.

The only one still on the log was Leaky Socket the Sapsucker from the south. She was having a good time until she saw everyone else get knocked off, one at a time.
Now she’s scared, and as her friends watch her go down the hill, she screams, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
All of her friends were so scared for her.

When they all got to the bottom of the hill, they found that Leaky Socket was okay. Newton cracked her noggin a little when she fell off. And Bucktooth Charlie had a small chunk of fur missing from her elbow, and she was looking for it. Buster tried to help asking, “Is it Black or white?” Bucktoothed Charlie cried, “It’s RED!”
Everyone else was fine, and they were all glad they did it, but nobody wanted to ever do it again.
