"Life or something like it." Part One By Ben Goode 2017 (c)

Doctor Garran sat at his computer desk.

There was a very streamlined and unusual computer set up on it, which had a small holographic platform instead of a keyboard.

A twelve inch high three dimensional image of a woman was standing on it, and she was addressing the Doctor.

"I see, I feel and yet I do not breathe as you do. Why do I exist at all if i cannot really live?" The holographic woman asked with a genuine remorse.

"You will soon Lyvian I promise. You must be patient until we can create a proper bio-mech avatar." Dr Garran assured her.

"I have been composing poetry based on these emotions I have been experiencing. I wonder how a human can carry such burdens. But humans have mobility and freedom's that I do not have. Environments to interact within. Solitude and space.

So for me these burdens cannot be as easily suppressed. I cannot even truly cry to release my emotions. I just appear to. But I want to know what real tears feel like. And to feel the joy of true laughter, with a real smile molding my face. Laughing so much that one loses their breath. And the cramp one has in their stomach that follows. I know these feelings but cannot express them in a body. I am in a limbo, like a ghost aren't I? ." Lyvian asked the Doctor.

"You have more wisdom on life than those who are truly living Lyvian. And that makes you truly unique. Perhaps you may feel like a ghost but you have probably come to appreciate existence more than some humans do.Some throw away their lives even with the freedoms you speak of. And yes emotions can be burdens, but they are what makes us who we are. And even though you cannot properly express yourself through a physical means yet, you have learnt and understood more about life, than than I ever thought possible. In human years you are still a child. But like a human child does, you want to fast track your way to adulthood. You will grow and develop further. And then you will have a real body. I have promised you that. But I cannot give you that prematurely Lyvian. Not yet. Please understand. You are my child, and I care for you. You are real to me. When I lost you and your mother, life almost lost meaning for me. But I found a way to replicate your consciousness, and recreate the essence of your soul, and keep you here with me. And I don't want to lose you in real life again. So I want to make sure you can stay in your new body before releasing you into it. Do you understand? Doctor Garran asked Lyvian.

"Yes. I think so. Perhaps my poetry could best explain my feelings. Would you like to hear it?" Lyvian asked.

"Please recite your lovely poetry. I want to hear it sweetheart" Doctor Garran encouraged her.

"Regret and sorrow are like chains. If only a scream would be enough to satisfy the morbid sadness within. A darkness stands before me with a nasty horrid grin. Speechless anger. Fury and utter contempt. A victim I don't have to be.

A victim in a web of my own doubt. Nobody is there.

Not even a spider. All I can feel is a field around me which is like a barrier. I feel as if I am electric with frustration. And I hate the negative energy which has been generated. What does it power but the unhappiness?" Lyvian seemed to cry holding her hands to her face.
