More Important Than Just a Story

We are all guilty for using social media. Some of us use social media a lot more than others. For some people, social media can be a serious health risk. It can completely consume people’s lives. There is a legitimate scale that researchers use to measure facebook addiction. Also, the University of Chicago found that social media is more addictive than cigarettes. It can relieve someone of boredom and it gives people a positive sense when they see something entertaining online. But are these feelings worth it? A study at the University of Pittsburgh showed that people who spent a lot of time on social media were 2.2 more times likely to report eating and body image concerns compared to people who used social media less. People who used social media most were 2.6 times more likely. Also, an effect of too much social media use was linked to trouble sleeping and depression in another study done by the University of Pittsburgh. Although there are good things about social media like increased socialization between you and your friends and even people you don’t know, the negative effects of social media are very prevalent and dangerous. Facts don’t lie, and if you pay attention to them they can really save you some struggles. So it would be in your best interest, and even my best interest to take a break from social media sometimes to avoid addiction and the negative effects.
