My writing: "Covetousness" By Ben Goode 2014 (c)

I could imagine a medieval dispute over your hand.
As a beautiful Princess I imagine you. Seated to dine in a grand castle. Wondering gazes seem to constantly rape your form.
Swooning fools dressed as gentlemen kiss your delicate hand and offer you promises well beyond their means. Maybe you see it.

Perhaps they are never pleasing enough to accept, or too amusing to make your choice. I watch them approach you countless times. Acting as if they were the favoured one. Perhaps I too had made that assumption, and thought perhaps you were somehow reserved for me.

I felt my heart try and escape my chest. It had betrayed me and I had to pay the price. These men mangled my patience, and challenged my will.
I felt engulfed and imprisoned within myself. For I wore an armour of a gentleman. What a scene it would be if I acted on impulse. I would rise from my seat. The crowd would be my sudden audience. And the fool with your hand on his lips would think twice.

Or perhaps he would be too ignorant to realise I addressed his boldness. But I would remove my gauntlet and walk his direction soon enough. Unafraid of his dagger or unsheathed sword. But would he challenge me? Would you allow it? Or would you make a choice that favoured me?

I felt I deserved some consideration but would I be made red faced as you dismissed my chances to make your hand exclusively mine? I knew that I would certainly be satisfied my gauntlet meet the face of the dog who stood before you now. My teeth clenched. I knew my eyes, if they were weapons, would stab him as mercilessly as a scene from Macbeth. Laced with utter contempt.

To hear their sickening and ill thought attempts to win you over.
My appetite was not for food. I stood anyway. But not to challenge anyone but your conscious if you had any. I left the table and you knew why. People would talk and make assumptions, but the fools would not be the wiser to know they were safe from my jealousy. For now. God help them. For they wouldn't have a prayer.
