"Nutty tale for a picnic fail" By Ben Goode 2018 (c)

A very beautiful woman with a food basket had wondered out deep into the woods away from the grand castle of Delphi where she had resided as a simple villager.
She wasn't especially well known and she liked it that way.
She toiled away as a farmer, quite humbly picking the fresh vegetables and fruit from her harvest.Β
She would often picnic on her own as she enjoyed the peace and tranquility that the woods offered.Β
She found a clearing surrounded by beautiful flowering trees, and the grass was so soft, rich and green.
Birds and other wildlife though seemed oddly silent. But the woman didn't seem to be terribly worried as she set up her sitting area, with an incredible hand crafted quilt she took from her basket, and had laid on the ground.
She looked around at her surroundings and smiled oddly before she sat down with her basket by her side.
A squirrel had seen her from a nearby tree and seemed to recognize her. It leaped from branch to branch and made it's way down to the ground.
It than ran towards the woman, and onto the quilt to look up at her. She looked down at the squirrel and smiled.
"Hello Tommy Trinket's, and how are you today?" The woman asked happily.
"Well aye It's good to see you again Aegan, always a pleasure. The wood's are oddly quiet today. It's a little nutty" Tommy replied with a wink.
"Ah I get what you're saying you cheeky thing. Well just a minute then, show me to your home." Aegan smiled as she got up to follow the squirrel.
She took her basket with her.
Tommy led her to his tree, and Aegan poured countless chestnuts from her basket into a hole that Tommy had pointed out to her.Β
"Much obliged Aegan. That should be plenty for the winter's stock. I must warn you, that the wood's are quiet for a reason. Please take this special fig,and eat it before your picnic today." Tommy winked as he handed the fig to her. Aegan happily ate it with a smile.
"Good day to you my lady, enjoy your lunch now." Tommy waved before he went into his home.Β
Aegan returned back to her picnic spot and sat down again.
Oddly she didn't take anything from her basket.
Suddenly she could hear what sounded like horses hooves galloping toward her from not far away.
Although she didn't move, nor did she seem disturbed.
It wasn't long before horse riders came into view and they galloped into the clearing right up to where she was sitting.
Five men, remained mounted upon their steeds, all dressed as barbarian warriors. They were clothed with various body armor and armed heavily with various swords and axes.Β
They surrounded her leering and laughing.Β
"Hello pretty lady, may we join you?" One of the men laughed. "Do I have a choice?" Aegan smiled.
"Not really ha!" The man dismounted and the others followed, and they stood over the woman menacingly.Β
"Are you going to sit down then and show some manners?" the woman asked casually.
"Lady we aren't here for your food, we're here for you!" The same man replied.
"Correction, you ARE here for my food, and I'm glad to have you!" Aegan rose up at such a speed the men didn't even have time to react.
She pounced onto the men as if she was a lioness, and tore them up with her jagged teeth.
The horses panicked and bolted away in different directions.
Aegan stood over the men's dismembered corpses. And seemed a little shocked and overwhelmed. Concerned Tommy the squirrel ran over quickly to Aegan from his tree again.Β
"Are you ok Aegan? I'm sorry my special fig might have reacted a little badly with you. Generally it reflects with whatever mood you're in to protect you." Tommy shrugged.
"Well I was pretty hungry ha ha so...but I think I've over eaten now. Oh well thanks Tommy, can you take care of this mess? I better wash off by the creek before I go home." Aegan wiped some blood away from her mouth.
"Sure I'll have the Hyena's over soon, there won't be a trace." Tommy replied.
The birds and crickets suddenly went back to their chirping and whistling in the woods.Β
"Ah there you go, see Tommy, all is right in the wood's again. Oh well good day Tommy. Till next time." Aegan smiled as she walked away.
Tommy shrugged and shook his head.
"Damn that bitch hates people. I keep tellin them don't disturb a woman when she's hungry. But ohhr nooo, they get torn up every-time tsk tsk, just glad my woman has her stock of nut's now, whew so I get to keep mine!"
