On That Day: Story Poem

He gave me things
You never did
The love I begged for,
What I needed

He put me together
When I could never
And then he asked me
For our forever

I was never taught
What it was like to love
But I knew him
And what he's made of

It's the bright smile
I didn't get from you
It's soft in his eyes
Unlike your's do
He put back the pieces
You shattered
Now I know
To him, I matter

Suddenly my tears
Weren't from crying
I knew that he
Was really trying
So I said yes

And on that day
I got the best

When he walked down the isle
I could see his smile
He said
"I always knew
That I loved you"
And on that day
I would say "I do"
