Pamela Kaye Carter

29th May 1955 - 14th July 2019
A precious gem that will be treasured by all those who knew her.
A daughter, a big sister, a wife , a mother, mother in law, nana, and great nan nan
An Aunty, a great Aunty, a sister and daughter in law and a best friend. These were just some of the roles she played. She was as stubborn an on ox and as loving as an angel, would offer her shoulder to cry on, arms to hold you, or words of comfort and advice. Do anything she could to help and was always there for her family.
So here we all are, gathered here on this day to celebrate the life journey of an amazing lady.
Born Pamela Kaye Hooper at the Manjimup Warren District Hospital on the 29th of May 1955, Eldest and only daughter of George and Nancy and big sister to Colin. And this is where her journey began.
Pam as everyone would call her attended Manjimup Primary School where she was a quiet and friendly student.
Her passions as a child would be going fishing with her parents and brother.
Holidays and weekends spent down the Donnelly River at the family’s hut.
Listening to music and riding horses, visiting her Nanna and other family members.
After she finished her schooling years at Manjimup senior High School she moved to Perth where she continued her education and started her training to become an Enrolled Nurse.
This is where she met her husband Roy, who was a DJ at the North Perth Pub.
In July 1975 they welcomed the birth of their first daughter Joanne, then
on the 20th of October 1975 Pam became Mrs Roy Carter.
Soon after they moved back to her home town where they embraced two more additions to their family , Naomi who arrived in May 1977 followed by their only Son Richard in January 1980. A few years after the birth of her son, Pam decided she would continue and complete her training as an enrolled nurse. She worked periodically at the Warren District Hospital and at the Moonya Lodge nursing home until she retired.
Being a mum was one of her greatest achievements, her children eventually moved on making her a mother in law to Rob, Ryan and Kristy, and a nanny to 9 grandchildren.
Timothy, Larissa, Christopher, Correy, Shenae, Ben, Maddy, Brett, Tyrain, Jeremy, Paige and Amelia was the greatest honour . But the ultimate prize of love came when her two great grandsons Luca and Zayde were born. She couldn’t have been any prouder of the way things were.
Life wasn’t always roses, but there was always more happiness then heartache, the fights and arguments were always far and few between, humble pie would come disguised as steak and kidney pie in her household .
In her final years Pam would often visit her children in Bunbury or Perth, and loved having her grandchildren coming home to stay or even live for a while. She was a woman with incredible strength and determination, her friendship was worth a million smiles. She was the most loyal and devoted mother and grandmother, protected and gave them everything she could , right until her final stand.
So many memories we all hold dear,
All the Christmas’s that we’re had
Singing and dancing to your 50’s music in your PJ’s
Hiding the Easter eggs at the end of the bed thinking the kids were asleep
The trip over east and to Luna Park
Watching your grandchildren be born
Drunken karaoke nights ... and soo many more
Cherish those thoughts
And remember her lust for life
“To love is to hurt
To hurt is to feel
To feel is to touch
To touch is to love“
One of Pam’s favourite quotes, written by her daughter Jo. This was how she lived her life, and from looking at the faces in front of me were all blessed to have known and be touched by such a free loving spirit.
An ode from your children, written by Jo
More Then A Mother
You gave us life, we were born from your flesh
Raised us with pride, you we’re always there to defend
Fixed what was broken, and wiped away all our mess
Filled our empty bellies, made us warm in our beds
You held all our hands, chased away any fears
Picked us up when we fell, kissed away all our tears
We made cubby’s with blankets, to hide from the rain
Made tea with our Teddy’s , had party’s, baked cakes
And when we grew, and days turned into years
You were there once again, to kiss away any tears
You held our hands high , watched your grandchildren be born
Held us close when we needed , patched us up when we were torn
Your strength was endless, you were devoted with pride
Even when you were weakened , you gave love gave your life
You waited for that moment, when the time was just right
Walked away with loving honour , your grandsons by your side
You sheltered us well , as any mother would
Showed us no fear, how to take on the world
You fought so bloody hard, fought right until the end
Still protecting us as always , while taking your last breath
So proud of you we are, our pride light the nights sky
Forever you are with us , loving tears hold our head high
Please know how much we love you , know how much you will be missed
How we would give you all of forever , for our mother’s one last kiss
Loving You Always
