THE BRIDGE OF UNDERSTANDING
“You stay on that side,Â
I’ll watch from here,Â
Speak through your eyes,Â
And I’ll understand, my dear.Â
When the tremor of your lipsÂ
Reaches my ears,Â
I’ll shift the air aroundÂ
To carry my words near.Â
As those pearls fall softlyÂ
Upon your cheeks,Â
Know that I’ll dive deepÂ
Into the tears that speak.Â
Becoming your hand,Â
I’ll embrace them tight,Â
Like rain on your dry lips,Â
I’ll descend, pure delight.Â
With this meeting’s sweet style,Â
We’ll become one at last,Â
So you stay on that side,Â
And I’ll watch from the past
POET’S PEN
The poem explores the theme of transcending physical boundaries through emotional and empathetic connection. It conveys a sense of longing, love, and understanding that transcends time and space. The tone is both tender and melancholic, with a touch of ethereal beauty. The bridge symbolizes the emotional connection between the two individuals.
The poem uses vivid imagery to describe the emotional exchange between the two, such as "tremor of your lips," "pearls fall softly," and "rain on your dry lips." The "past" symbolizes a cherished memory or a timeless connection. The poet personifies emotions and sensations, such as "tears that speak."
The poem adheres to a structured format, with each stanza containing four lines. The consistent rhyme scheme and meter contribute to the rhythmic flow and musicality of the poem. The poem suggests a deep emotional bond between two individuals who are physically separated. The poet expresses a desire to connect with her loved one on an emotional level, even if they are physically distant. The bridge of understanding is built upon empathy, compassion, and shared experiences.
The final stanza introduces a bittersweet note, suggesting that this connection may be rooted in the past. It implies that the poet cherishes the memory of this bond and continues to draw strength from it.
